Users Inactive on Registration until Admin activates User.

    Post  karl_009 on Thu Nov 13, 2008 11:35 am

    Hello,

I am looking at how I would go about letting users enter in there information and then having to wait until an admin approves there account.

Is there anyway this could be do, when looking at the thread with regards to un-banning users could accounts be registered as banned and then some how un-banned by the admin?

Thanks for any help and advice

The best way to do this (in my opinion at least) is to create a new user level (we'll call it level 2 for now) and reserve this new user level for users who have been activated. When users initially register they are created with a user level 1 so you would have to change some code around that would not let a user with this level to log on. When the user is activated you would have to change the users user level in the database from 1 to 2.

While your request is slightly different, i posted a similar answer here (is this the thread you were talking about?). This may give you some pointers.

Let me know if this is what you had in mind!

Thanks for that, I red though that post and worked it out from there...

Would it be possible to add in check boxes in the user list and tick them and update the user like that or many a drop down menu instead to type in the users username to make this faster...

    Thanks for any help...

well this is certainly possible but it involves editing some of the code in admin and adminprocess. are you planning on updating several user levels at once, because otherwise i would just say add a new option to the "update user level" section in admin.php with a value of your "activated user" user level.
